The 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra are a relatively new change in the political map of the country and state. The opposition coalition, the INDIA alliance – which comprises the INC, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar’s NCP – won the elections in the state, bagging 30 of the 48 assembly seats. This was a big set back to the incumbent BJP led NDA that got only 17 seats down from previous performance
Key Highlights:
- Congress managed to grab 13 seats with emphatic come back in the state, which was led by Congress.
- Shiv sena (UBT) emerged victorious in 9 seats, majorly from the city of Mumbai as well as other urban centres.
- NCP won 7 seats and have continued to retain their political positions in core areas.
- Some like Nitin Gadkari of BJP kept their seats but the extensive victory of the INDIA bloc showed there was a real revolution on the block.
